Sat down here to read
Me and Chris in our old ageThese are for my mother who has suddenly decided to take pictures of little kids, girls in particular. I think that makes her creepy. Whatever floats your boat, mom.
She was looking at swans
He was walking with his parents down the path, and then decided to just turn around, find a piece of lawn, and plopped down. It was really cute.
This girl was cute with her little suitcase. Wonder what she has in there... Shoes, perhaps? If so, she would be a woman after my own heart. The Real Post
My parents came to visit and came up on May 30th. My mom decided she wanted to stay with me for a few days while my brother and dad crashed at a hotel. I'm not sure about the logic behind that decision, but I think she's living vicariously and wants to see how 20-somethings live. I seriously doubted she would be impressed. All of my roommates promised to behave. The night they came up we ate at the Bluenose II Restaurant. We actually met up with Christine, my mom's best friend's daughter (phew!). My mother was born in Trinidad, a small country off the coast of Venezuela. She went to school with Brenda until what was the equivalent of high school. After that they went to separate schools. They use to hang out at Brenda's house and talk for hours, then Brenda would walk my mom home, and then my mom would walk her halfway back. And she use to make fun of me for being on the phone with my friends for hours! HA! She was worse than I was! Whenever my mom talks about Brenda, she always mentions that she had really nice knees. My mom hates her knees because she says they look like kaiser rolls:
Anyway, the last time my mother saw Brenda was about 30 years ago when Brenda graduated from college in the states. My mother was living in Toronto at the time and her and her sister drove down to see Brenda graduate and then they drove back up. After graduating, Brenda moved to Guatemala to marry a man she met in college. My mom and her have stayed in touch over the years, and she remembered that Christine was living in Halifax, so she told me that I should get in contact with her. So, we started e-mailing and it turns out that Christine had been a nomad travelling around for awhile, and was only in Halifax for a few days to pick up some stuff before moving to Montreal. She was leaving May 31st. WHAT LUCK! We decided to all have dinner together before Christine left. Destiny, fate, whatever you want to call it. We were all meant to meet. People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Brenda is definitely my mom's lifetime. The last time she saw her was 30 years ago, and yet they are still friends, even though they don't talk very often. There are definitely people in my life like Brenda. It always seems like no matter how long we've been apart, we always pick up right where we've left off. For instance, Robin took a picture of these classy ladies in the Public Gardens when she was here in Halifax. She says that this will be us in our golden years. I tend to agree.
There are definitely are a few more friends than just Robin, so that bench will probably be quite full in 50 years. Bring it on!
So, here's me and Christine: the Next Generation! Turns out she lived literally right across the street from where I live now. She just moved out of a place a street or two behind me. But I can see her old house from my window.
In front of my house. I think I look a little awkward, but whatev.
In front of Christine's houseIt was, by the way freezing the day that they came in. We had beautiful days on the Thursday and Friday before hand, but not when my parents came in! Fortunately, though, it warmed up and the rest of the week was gorgeous. Proof that the weather here is fickle during May.
I've spent way too long on this post. Will post about Cape Breton and other adventures in the upcoming days. Plus, I think I have some legal things I probably need to write about so that I don't forget about it for the report I have to write about at the end of the summer. Sigh...
PS -
Apparently, my roommate stole some pomanders from a wedding that must have happened at work. She hung it outside our house. People probably thought one of us was getting married? Ah Kayla.... There were two in a box when I left this morning and only one hanging outside, so I'm guessing the other pilfered pomander is in her room somewhere.
